The highly-awaited second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people make a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on October 29.
